Foreign drug offenders are also on the rise.In 2022, a total of 1,757 foreign drug offenders were arrested by the police, accounting for 14.2% ofthe total drug offenders (12,387), and the number of arrests is steadily increasing.The Korean police is actively cracking down on drug smuggling and drug use crimes by foreignersresiding in Korea. The police complies with the legal procedure during the investigation toprotect human rights and avoid diplomatic issues between countries and controversy over racialdiscrimination.한국에 체류하는 외국인이 2007년 처음 100만 명을 돌파한 이후 2019년 240만 명을 넘어서고 있으며, 외국인 마약류 사범도 증가하고 있다.그리고 2022년 경찰이 검거한 외국인 마약류 사범은 총 1,757명으로 전체 마약류 사범(12,387명) 중 14.2%의 비율이고, 검거 인원은 꾸준히 증가 추세이다.한국 경찰은 국내 체류 외국인에 의한 마약류 밀반입 및 투약 범죄에 대해 적극적으로 단속하고, 국가 간 외교 문제나 인종 차별 논란이 야기되지 않도록 수사 과정에서의 법적 절차를 준수, 인권 보호에 최선을 다하고 있다.6.
