Foreigner’s Neighborhood Patrol

Overview

Foreigner’s Neighborhood Patrol was established to prevent crime in foreigner-concentrated areas under a cooperative framework between the police and the community.

Foreign residents are invited to participate in safeguarding their own communities, making meaningful contributions in building a community safety net.

Currently in Operation : 14 Metropolitan/Provincial Agencies, 49 groups and 930 foreign residents

※ Foreigner’s Neighborhood Patrol to be expanded to 1,000 members nationwide by 2015.

Selecting members for Foreigner’s Neighborhood Patrol

Selection made among those who are responsible and dilligent

- ※ Owners of Police-targeted businesses will be exempted

Main Activities

[Crime Prevention Patrol] Crime Prevention Patrol in foreigner-concentrated areas

※ Police-community joint patrol in areas with high crime risk (2-3 times a week)

[Publicity/Guidance] Promoting the respect for law and disseminating public safety policy information by participating in campaigns for the promotion and the education for public order.

[Volunteer Activities] Engaging in police-community joint social outreach activities to social welfare facilities.

- A volunteer neighborhood patrol group based on a sense of duty to safeguard the community

Necessity

Actively encourage constructing voluntary organizations of foreigner public safety according to the regional situation and public safety activities. Also, utilize foreigner voluntary citizen patrol officers as counselors of foreigner rights and reports.
