A new police station has opened up in West Hwaseong, a place where residents have been living in uncertainty after a series of disappearances of women and girls.
The station officially started operations on the 4th, after an opening ceremony attended by 300 people, including NPA Commissioner General Eo Cheong-soo (¾îû¼ö), Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo (±è¹®¼ö), police officers and local residents.
The new station has 314 officers to oversee public security for the nearly 170-thousand people living in the West Hwaseong area. Expectations are high that their presence will greatly deter crimes that target the public, such as crimes against children and women, in addition to school violence.
Meanwhile, the existing police station in Osan changed its name to East Hwaseong and will oversee security in the eastern part of Hwaseong city.
