A Reliable Police Maintains a Healthy Society.
As of January, 2010, the national police agency consists of 1 Deputy Commissioner General, 7 Bureaus, 4 Authorities, 1 Spokesperson, 1 Deliberator, 10 Director Generals and 28 Divisions. Subsidiary facilities are the Korea National Police University, Police Training Institute, National Central Police Academy, Police Investigation Training Center, National Police Hospital and Driver¡¯s License Agency.
In addition, it has 16 local police agencies as special local administrative facilities to divide local security duties, 244 police stations affiliated to these local police agencies, and 760 police offices and 793 police boxes under the police stations.
The Police Committee in the Ministry of Government Affairs and Home Affairs also exists to deliberate and make decisions on overall police administration and secure political neutrality and democratic control of the police. Though the National Institute of Scientific Investigation is currently under the Ministry of Government (in progress of transfer to the Korean National Police Agency), it plays a central role in police scientific investigations, under the direction and supervision of the police Commissioner General.
The police is the largest government department made up of professional civil servants, is structured to counteract quickly to various situations based on a national network from the National Police Agency to rift valleys, and is maintaining a system producing a security service based on users through continuous structural maintenance, to revive as a service facility for the people.
